Employability People

Name: Zakeer Patel

Job Title: Operations Manager

Organisation: Get Set UK

What do you actually do?

Overseeing the management of 9 employment and training contracts across 14 London Boroughs within Get Set UK. This includes a range of funding bodies including London Councils, Big Lottery Fund, DWP, local Jobcentre, ESF, SFA and Housing Contracts. Get Set has also launched its apprenticeship division in October 2016 where I’ve been supporting with establishing a management structure.

What issues are in your employability inbox?

Trying to get as much information as possible to prepare for the new Work and Health Programme.

What do you think the employability sector is doing really well?

Its good to see the different funding streams focusing on different barriers to support customers ie Big Lottery and London Councils current contracts are focussing more on integrating economically inactive BME customers back into the community, whereas DWP contracts are supporting long term unemployed on benefits back into employment.

Where should we be looking to improve?

its good to see a bigger focus being put on customers with Health issues on the new Work & Health Programme. These customers require the largest amount of support within the employability sector and this added focus will ensure these people will not only be given the correct advice and guidance but the motivation and confidence to get back into employment.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

Support every customer based on their individual requirements. That’s the message that’s been promoted to all the advisors I have managed over the years and has also allowed Get Set to support over 300 customers into employment in the last 12 months.
